Cultivation methods and maintenance of old Desert Rose piles

How to grow desert rose into an old pile

If you want to grow the desert rose into an old stump, you need to choose a plant with a well-developed root system and a thick stem. When caring for it, you need to place it in a place with direct sunlight, keep it ventilated, and water it in time to keep the soil slightly moist. During the growing season, apply fertilizer 1-2 times a month. In addition, when the branches and leaves near the bottom are aging, they need to be cut off directly.

Cultivation method of old desert rose

1. Soil: Desert rose grows close to the desert and prefers sandy soil with good drainage. During the vigorous growth period of the plant, some small gravel or river sand can be added to its substrate to facilitate drainage and waterlogging prevention. During the seedling stage, it needs to be repotted every year.

2. Light: Desert rose is a sun-loving plant. It needs good light during its growth to facilitate flowering. Even during its dormant period, it still needs a certain amount of light.

3. Temperature: Old Desert Rose trees are resistant to high temperatures, but not to low temperatures. They are easier to grow in the south and need to be moved indoors and kept dry in winter.

4. Pruning : The top buds of old Desert Rose stumps can be pruned in spring to allow the branches to grow evenly. If there are too many side branches, they also need to be pruned in time to concentrate nutrients and make the plant grow more beautiful. In addition, the excess side buds on the main branches should be pruned, and 3-4 side buds should be retained on the main branches. All diseased and broken branches should be removed.

Matters Needing Attention in the Maintenance of Old Desert Rose

1. During the growth period of the old Desert Rose stump, the soil should not be too moist and needs to be maintained in a slightly dry state. In the high temperatures of summer, it can generally be watered once every three days. Water should not accumulate in the pot. Watering can be stopped in the low temperatures of winter.

2. The old Desert Rose is a fertilizer-loving plant. During the spring growing season, nitrogen fertilizer needs to be applied 2-3 times. Before flowering, compound fertilizer containing calcium and phosphorus can be applied twice. Pay attention to applying thin fertilizers frequently.

3. The main disease of old Desert Rose stumps is soft rot, which is mainly caused by poor ventilation and water accumulation in the pot, so it is not advisable to over-water. You can spray 1000 times of agricultural streptomycin solution or 150-200 times of Bordeaux solution for drug control, about once every month.
