Osmanthus seeds sowing time

Osmanthus seeds can be harvested in May and June every year. Do not sow them immediately after harvesting, but store them in wet sand until they are fully mature before sowing. They are usually stored in sand until February to April of the following year. The climate is warm at this time and the seeds are easier to take root and germinate.

Osmanthus fragrans seeds planting method and steps

1. Seed germination

In order to ensure the germination rate of osmanthus, it is usually necessary to germinate the seeds before sowing. The seeds must be disinfected first, then soaked in warm water at 50-52℃. After 4 hours, take them out and wrap them with a wet cloth. Place them in an environment of 18-24℃ and spray water regularly to keep them moist. They will sprout after a few days.

2. Pot soil preparation

Osmanthus likes slightly acidic sandy loam, so before sowing, you should choose a place with deep, loose, fertile soil and good drainage for planting. If you want to plant it in a pot, you can mix leaf mold and coarse sand to make potting soil, and you can also put broken bricks at the bottom of the pot to enhance its drainage.

3. Sowing and seedling raising

Sprinkle the seeds of osmanthus on the soil surface. Use row sowing for ground planting. Keep a certain distance between the seeds to avoid affecting each other's growth. Cover with 1-2 cm of fine soil after sowing and use straw or shade net to provide appropriate shade. After the seeds germinate, remove the straw and spray water to keep them moist.
