Amomum villosum likes a warm and humid environment, is not cold-resistant, and can only tolerate short periods of low temperatures. It is mainly distributed in Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi and Yunnan in China. The fruit is used for medicinal purposes, and the best quality is in Yangchun, Guangdong. It has high medicinal and ornamental value. It has the effects of treating spleen and stomach qi stagnation, indigestion, abdominal pain and bloating, choking and vomiting, and cold diarrhea and dysentery.

Amomum villosum growing conditions

Amomum villosum is a semi-shade plant. The requirement for light intensity varies with the growth period. Generally, seedlings require a shade of about 70-80%. When flowering and fruiting after 2-3 years, 50-60% is appropriate. When planting Amomum villosum, you should choose a secluded forest with large crowns, deep roots, strong water retention, and easily rotten fallen leaves as the cultivation environment.

Amomum villosum is a subtropical plant that likes high temperatures. The suitable temperature for its growth and development is 22-28℃. It grows slowly when the temperature is 15-19℃. During the flowering period, the temperature is best controlled at 22~25℃. Warmth-keeping measures need to be taken during the low temperatures in winter.

The growth process of Amomum villosum

The growth process of Amomum villosum mainly includes three stages: germination, flowering and fruiting. It will sprout soon after planting and grow roots. After photosynthesis, the leaves will gradually grow larger, and flower buds will sprout, and then bloom and bear fruit.

Amomum villosum planting time and method

The planting time of Amomum villosum is generally in early September to October in autumn. Its seeds should be sown early when they are fresh, with a high germination rate and early seedlings. They can be transplanted in May or June of the following year. If they cannot be sown in the same year, the seeds can be stored in wet sand until sown when the temperature rises in February or March of the following year.

Amomum villosum can also be propagated by division. Cut the runners directly from the field. The runners need to have 5-10 leaves on them. The plant spacing is 1 meter, the row spacing is 1 meter, and the hole is 30 cm long, 20 cm wide, and about 20 cm deep. After sowing, cover the soil with 6-7 cm, compact it, water it, cover it with grass, and keep it moist.
