Winter radish planting time

Winter radishes are generally planted after October in late autumn. Radishes as a crop have a certain degree of cold resistance, but the temperature in winter generally drops to a relatively low level. Overwintering radishes need to have a certain growth scale in winter, so they must be planted after October so that they can survive the winter.

Winter radish planting methods and key points

1. Soil screening

If you want to grow winter radish, you need to provide soil suitable for growth. You need to choose soil with a loose and porous structure and good drainage and air permeability. Make sure the soil fertility is sufficient and there is no compaction, salinization, etc. The most important thing is that the previous crop cannot be a cruciferous plant.

2. Temperature stability

Radish itself is a plant that likes to live in a relatively cool environment. It has a strong tolerance to low temperatures, but it is not resistant to high temperatures. Therefore, after sowing, it is necessary to ensure that the soil temperature does not exceed 22 degrees, but the minimum is not lower than 3 degrees. Only in this way can the radish seeds take root and germinate normally.

3. Seedling selection and weeding

When the radish seedlings grow about 2-3 true leaves, it is time to prepare for thinning, leaving a certain amount of space between each radish, and select and pull out those seedlings that are growing poorly and slowly. After the seedlings are planted, inspect the fields regularly to remove weeds in the radish fields.

Winter radish planting precautions

Radishes are prone to diseases such as black rot and viral diseases during their growth period. These diseases will cause poor growth of white radishes. Usually, management needs to be strengthened, attention should be paid to environmental ventilation, and sufficient sunlight should be given. Regular spraying of 200 times diluted streptomycin sulfate or root irrigation with Virus No. 1 is needed.
