How many days does it usually take for peanuts to germinate?

Peanut is one of the important oil crops in China and has high economic value. It is also drought-resistant and poverty-resistant, has strong adaptability to soil, is easy to manage, and has a high yield rate. It is a very good planting project for getting rich. So how many days does it usually take for peanuts to germinate? Let’s learn more about it below.

How many days does it usually take for peanuts to germinate?

After peanut seeds are planted, it usually takes 5-8 days for them to germinate. Of course, this time is not fixed. The specific germination time depends on the temperature and the variety planted. Generally speaking, germination and emergence are faster at high temperatures than at low temperatures, and early-maturing varieties are faster than medium- and late-maturing varieties.

How to improve the germination rate of peanut seeds?

1. Seed pretreatment

Choose fresh, healthy, pest-free peanut seeds. Before sowing, air the seeds in their shells for 1 to 2 days, peel off the shells, and remove diseased, shriveled, or poor quality seeds. Remove dust and impurities from the surface of the seeds by cleaning, control the soaking time to 8-12 hours, and make sure the water temperature remains at around 25°C.

2. Soak and disinfect

Soaking peanut seeds in warm water for 6-8 hours will allow the seeds to absorb moisture and promote germination. The use of appropriate growth regulators or micro-fertilizers can further increase the germination rate. At the same time, use 1000 times of carbendazim for disinfection to reduce the occurrence of seedling diseases.

3. Seed dressing with chemicals

Mix 75% methyl thiophanate and water in a ratio of 4:30, mix evenly with the seeds, and wait until they are dry before sowing to enhance the disease resistance of peanuts.

4. Sowing depth and density

When sowing, attention should be paid to reasonable density of planting. Generally, there are about 8,000-10,000 holes per mu for large peanuts and about 10,000-12,000 holes per mu for small peanuts. It is appropriate to sow two to three seeds in each hole. The sowing method can be digging holes, sowing in gullies or mechanical sowing. The appropriate depth is 5 cm, and the specific situation should be flexibly controlled according to soil quality and moisture conditions.

5. Temperature and humidity adjustment

The suitable temperature range for peanut germination is usually between 25°C and 30°C. Within this temperature range, the germination rate and germination speed of peanut seeds are faster. The suitable humidity range is usually between 60% and 80%. Maintaining relatively high humidity helps promote seed germination.

In general, the germination time of peanuts will be affected by many factors, but it is generally around 5-8 days. Growers should carry out appropriate sowing management according to local climate, soil conditions and variety habits, so as to effectively improve the germination rate of peanut seeds and achieve better planting results.
