How to plant calamus? Planting methods and maintenance points

Calamus growth environment requirements

Acorus prefers a cool and humid environment and is not resistant to direct sunlight. It needs shade in summer and is not cold-resistant. The minimum temperature of the planting site must not be lower than four degrees, otherwise the plant will be frostbitten. It likes a humid growing environment. The soil humidity is generally around 90%. With proper maintenance, the yield of fresh goods per mu can reach 400 to 500 kilograms, and the yield of dry goods is around 120-140 kilograms.

Calamus planting time

The planting time of calamus should be determined according to the different temperatures in each region. The suitable germination temperature is between 20-25 degrees. Therefore, areas south of the Yangtze River can be planted from February to May, and areas in the southern region can be planted from January to May.

How to plant calamus

Acorus can be propagated by seeds. Wash the ripe fruits and sow them indoors in autumn. Keep the soil moist. Under conditions of about 20 degrees, they will germinate in early spring and then be separated and cultured. When the seedlings grow strong, they can be transplanted.

In addition, calamus is suitable for planting in fertile and soft places. The soil should not be too humid and the environment should be well ventilated so that it can germinate faster. During the growth period, it should be watered when dry and not dry. If it is not dry, it should be watered thoroughly. Attention should be paid to drainage in rainy weather. In order to ensure its good growth, foliar fertilizer is sometimes needed once or twice.

Key points for high-yield planting of calamus

Acorus has strong adaptability to the environment and can be managed in a rough manner. During the growing period, the soil should be kept moist, topdressed 2-3 times, and combined with fertilization, inter-row cultivation and weeding should be carried out. Nitrogen fertilizer should be used mainly in the early stage, and phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be used mainly before flowering. Each fertilization needs to be placed in the mud, and fallen leaves should be removed in time in winter.

Precautions for cultivation of calamus

Each time you fertilize calamus, do not apply fertilizer close to the roots. Be sure to bury the fertilizer about 5 cm below the soil surface. Before wintering, clean up the dead branches and leaves on the ground, remove pathogens and insects of diseases and insects, and trim dense branches.
