Peony cutting time

It is necessary to choose the right time for peony cuttings, which can be around June or July in summer. During this period, the climate is suitable, the precipitation is high, and the humidity is maintained well, so the survival rate after cuttings is higher.

Peony cutting method

1. Cut the cuttings

Choose a well-growing peony plant, cut off a strong, full branch without disease or insect pests, cut off the inflorescence on the branch, and then cut the branch into small sections of 2 cm.

2. Cutting medium

It is best to choose neutral soil as the substrate for peony cuttings. The air permeability and drainage must be good, and it must also contain a certain amount of humus. When preparing the soil, you can mix sand, leaf mold, and perlite. After fully mixing, use potassium permanganate solution to disinfect and sterilize.

3. Insert the seeds into the soil

Prepare a breathable container, put the prepared substrate into the container, level the substrate, and insert the cuttings into the substrate. The buried part should not exceed half of the branch. After the cuttings are completed, water the substrate thoroughly immediately and wait for the peony to germinate, take root, and sprout.

Maintenance of Peony Cuttings

After the peony cuttings are done, water them thoroughly and build a plastic shed for the plants to grow in, creating a semi-shaded environment for their growth. Control the temperature at around 25°C and they will take root and sprout in about 25-30 days.
