How to prevent orchid diseases and pests

1. Vegetables with strange smell

Odor-infected vegetables all have their own odors, and their smells can kill insects and sterilize. Commonly used odorous vegetables in households include green onions, garlic, leeks, ginger, onions, etc.

Main usage: Take an appropriate amount of smelly vegetables. Mash it into juice, add a little water, and spray it directly on the orchid plants. It can cure aphids, red spiders, scale insects and gray mold.

2. Tea seed cake

It is the residue left over from making tea. Because it contains a lot of saponins and glycosides, it has a good contact killing effect on pests after being soaked in water.

How to use: Soak the tea residue in water overnight, then use it to water the orchid pot or spray the orchid plants. It has a good preventive and control effect on aphids and red spiders.

3. Cigarette Butts

Tobacco leaves contain nicotine, which has a killing effect on pests.

How to use: Take 20 cigarette butts and a portion of quicklime, add water and stir evenly, soak overnight, then filter, add 30 times the amount of water, and spray it directly on the orchid plants. Spraying the bottom of the pot can also kill pests such as ants.

4. Washing powder

Detergent can dissolve the cornea of ​​scale insects and form a layer of foam that wraps around the insect body, suffocating the scale insects to death. Laundry detergent solution can prevent and control some pests and diseases.

How to use: Dissolve the laundry detergent in a small amount of warm water, then dilute it with water to 1000 times the liquid, and spray it on the orchid plants to kill aphids, whiteflies, and red spiders.

5. Liquor

Mix white wine and water in a ratio of 1:2, spray the orchid plants once a week for three consecutive times to kill scale insects.

6. Citrus peel

Placing citrus peels at the bottom of the pot can prevent pests such as ants from entering the soil and harming the orchid. You can also cut citrus peel into small pieces and sprinkle it on the surface of the potting soil. If you don't water it for a few days, it can kill aphids, scale insects, etc.

7. Brown sugar

Mix powdered brown sugar and boiling water in a ratio of 1:100. After it cools, spray the orchid plants with the brown sugar liquid. Spray once every three days for three times. It is effective in preventing and controlling downy mildew, powdery mildew, black spot and leaf blight.

8. Diesel

Mix diesel and water in a ratio of 1:60 to make an emulsion, then dilute it with 100 times water and spray it on orchid plants to kill scale insects.

9. Plant ash

Soak wood ash and water in a ratio of 1:50 for two days and nights, then filter it and use the filtrate to spray orchid plants. This can both kill aphids and increase potassium fertilizer.

10. Vinegar

Mix vinegar and water in a ratio of 1:8, and spray it evenly on the front and back of orchid leaves to kill scale insects. If the scale insects have become adults, you can slightly increase the acidity of the mixture and spray it once every three days for three times to kill the adult scale insects. Spraying vinegar on the leaves can also eliminate black spot disease, powdery mildew, leaf spot disease, chlorosis, etc. Avoid using industrial vinegar.
