Time and method of cutting crabapple

Begonia cutting time

Begonia is suitable for cutting propagation in spring and autumn. The temperature is warm and the air humidity is suitable for rooting of cuttings during this season, especially in May-June and September-October each year. If greenhouse conditions are available, cuttings can survive all year round.

Begonia cutting method

1. Cutting selection

Cut a 5-6 cm section of vigorously growing branches from the mother plant of the crabapple tree, leaving only two buds and the leaves on the top of the branch. The leaves at the bottom can be cut off. This can prevent the leaves from competing for nutrients and promote the root growth of the branches.

2. Prepare the soil

For crabapple cuttings, use loose and breathable soil, such as river sand and humus soil. They have good drainage and can avoid water accumulation problems. Place the prepared soil in the sun for exposure, disinfection and sterilization to ensure the healthy nutrients of the soil, which is conducive to the growth of plant roots.

3. Take cuttings

Prepare a flowerpot of suitable size, fill it with soil, then insert the processed branches into the soil to a depth of about 2 cm, compact the surrounding soil, and then water it to keep the soil moist.

Maintenance of Begonia cuttings

After the crabapple cuttings are taken, they should be placed in a cool and ventilated place for maintenance. Wait for 3-5 days and water them thoroughly. If the temperature is controlled at around 20℃, it will take about 15-20 days for it to take root and survive. After that, it can be moved to a sunny place for maintenance. Water regularly to keep the soil moist. It can be transplanted after the growth becomes stable.
