Does radish prefer shade or sun?

Radishes are easy to grow and are very suitable for planting at home. However, you must grasp the cultivation method during the breeding process. There are many varieties of radishes, and their preferences for sunlight are different. Therefore, if you want to grow radishes well, you need to meet their daily needs for sunlight according to the variety.

Does radish like sunlight?

Radishes like sunlight and need at least 6 hours of sunlight a day. If it is summer, they need to be shaded, otherwise the maturity of the radish will be delayed.

Radish can be exposed to the sun in summer, but it is afraid of excessive exposure. If it is exposed to the sun, the first thing to suffer is the upper leaves. The leaves will curl up and slowly wither. At this time, it needs about 70% shade.

Is radish shade tolerant?

Radishes also need diffuse light during the seedling stage, so they cannot be grown in shady places. Moreover, they need strong light for a long time during the vegetative growth period, so they are generally planted in open fields with sufficient light.

Radish growing environment

The best soil for radish growth is sandy soil that is rich in humus, has a deep soil layer, good drainage, and is loose and ventilated. The pH value of the soil is preferably 5.3-7.0. The seeds can germinate at 2-3°C, and the suitable temperature for germination is 20-25°C. The seedling stage can withstand high temperatures of around 25°C and short-term low temperatures of -2-3°C.

Radish likes moisture. Although radish has deep roots, its leaves are large, so it is not drought-tolerant. When watering, it is best to keep the soil surface moist. If there is too much water and insufficient air in the soil, the absorption and expansion of the fleshy roots will be affected, and the epidermis will also become rough.
