Can chrysanthemums be pruned? What should be paid attention to when pruning?

Chrysanthemum pruning

Chrysanthemums can be pruned, and the pruning time of chrysanthemums can be divided into three stages:

The first stage is pruning from May to June in spring , when the chrysanthemums are pinched for the first time;

The second stage is in mid-August , when the growing chrysanthemums are topped for the second time and thin and weak branches and leaves are pruned to promote the development of branches and leaves that grow well;

The third stage is from September to October , the early autumn season, when the chrysanthemum plants are pruned and all the withered and yellowed leaves and damaged branches and leaves are cut off.

Chrysanthemum pruning method

1. Prune axillary buds

During the chrysanthemum seedling stage, its axillary buds will grow vigorously, but too many axillary buds will cause the chrysanthemum to consume nutrients too quickly, resulting in slow growth or even abnormal growth. You need to use scissors to cut off the excess axillary buds to prevent the chrysanthemum from losing nutrients too quickly and to keep the plant shape beautiful.

2. Topping

When chrysanthemums grow too vigorously, they need to be controlled in height and pinched. The first time, the excess branches and leaves are pinched, leaving only a few leaves at the bottom for continued growth. The second time is to cut off the excess branches on the side branches, leaving only 2 or 3 leaves. The third time is to cut off the vigorous and weak branches.

Precautions for pruning chrysanthemums

When pruning chrysanthemums, you need to keep the surrounding environment clean and tidy to prevent the pruned chrysanthemums from being infected by bacteria due to environmental pollution. Also, pay attention to the fact that the pruning tools must be boiled in boiling water for disinfection, then dried before pruning. When pruning, be sure to make the incision as smooth as possible.
