The cutting propagation method of bougainvillea (how to propagate bougainvillea old branches with the highest survival rate)

Bougainvillea is a flower plant that can be propagated by cuttings . For flower lovers who know how to propagate Bougainvillea by cuttings, any branch can take root and sprout.

However, for those who don't know how to propagate bougainvillea by cuttings, few cuttings survive every year, and none of them survive. Today we will specifically introduce the propagation methods and steps of cuttings of old bougainvillea branches. If the details are well taken care of, it is still expected to achieve a 100% survival rate of cuttings.

Step 1: Select branches

① It is not allowed to use tender branches of bougainvillea for cuttings. It is best to choose those semi-woody or woody branches . Be sure not to choose those with very green and soft skin, as those are not easy to root.

②Choose semi-woody branches with high hardness, and keep the length of the branches at about 10 cm . Cut off all the leaves at the bottom, leaving only the two complete leaves at the top, and then cut the two complete leaves at the top in half.

③Finally, we trim an oblique cut at the bottom of the branch , add some needle liquid to the water, and soak the bottom of the branch in water for about half an hour.

Step 2: Soil selection

When we cut bougainvillea, the soil must be breathable and sterile. When preparing the soil, add some perlite, vermiculite, etc. to ensure air permeability and water permeability.

We can also add some carbendazim to the soil to prevent fungi in the soil from causing branch rot. After the soil is prepared, choose a smaller pot and you can start cuttings.

Step 3: Cutting method

① Watering after cutting operation
Insert the bottom of the branch into the soil about two to three centimeters. Water it thoroughly after insertion. It is best to add some rooting liquid and some carbendazim when watering .

②Ventilated and low-light environment

Then place the grafted branches in an environment with diffused light and good ventilation. Do not expose them to light or strong light. Ensure good ventilation and spray water regularly 2 to 3 times a day.

If you don't want to spray water, you can find a large container. Put the cuttings in it and cover the top with a plastic film . It's best to make a bow shape and poke a few holes in the plastic film.

③ Rooting and survival

Place it in a diffused light and ventilated environment, check it regularly, and water it thoroughly if the soil surface is dry.

Generally, as long as the temperature of the cuttings is above 20 degrees, the roots of our bougainvillea cuttings will gradually grow in about 45 days, and the roots will definitely grow very well in about two months .
