What fertilizer is best for plum blossoms?

In the daily maintenance of plum blossoms, fertilization is a necessary task. Proper use of fertilizers can make the plum blossoms grow more vigorously and the number of flowers each year will increase accordingly. It should be noted that the climate of spring, summer, autumn and winter is different, and the principles of fertilization are also different.

Fertilizer for plum blossom

When the plum blossom is in the growth stage, the fertilizer needed is various organic fertilizers, such as cake fertilizer, etc. When it is in the flowering period, it needs quick-acting fertilizer. If it is before winter, the fertilizer applied is decomposed organic fertilizer.

1. Spring fertilization

Plum blossoms usually bloom in late winter and early spring. A lot of nutrients are consumed during the flowering process. After the flowers fade, in addition to cutting off the remaining flowers, you must also quickly apply fertilizer to supplement them with enough nutrients. At this time, the main purpose of fertilizing is to restore the vitality of the plum blossoms, and mainly choose fertilizers with balanced nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium elements.

2.Summer fertilization

Plum blossoms bloom in winter and spring, but flower bud differentiation occurs in summer. If flower bud differentiation is not sufficient, there will be few or even no flowers blooming in winter. Therefore, after entering summer, plum blossoms need to be supplemented with high-phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to promote flower bud differentiation.

3. Fertilize in autumn

After entering the cool autumn, plum blossoms wake up from dormancy and regain vitality. During this period, plum blossoms have completed flower bud differentiation and began vegetative growth and reproductive growth in parallel, growing branches and leaves while nurturing flower buds. Generally, they are fed with elemental compound fertilizers, solid fertilizers such as decomposed animal manure, and liquid fertilizers such as balanced nutrient solution and peel water.

4. Winter

The temperature is higher in early winter. If the plum blossoms are still growing, you can continue the autumn fertilization method for a while. However, when the weather gradually turns cold and the temperature drops below 15 degrees, the plum blossoms will no longer grow. At this time, stop applying any fertilizer, reduce the amount of watering, and wait quietly for the plum blossoms to bloom.

Plum blossom fertilization method

For ground-planted plum blossoms, you can use multi-element compound fertilizers and decomposed animal manure. For potted plum blossoms, it is recommended to use balanced flower fertilizers or nutrient solutions. Use them when the ice and snow melt and the plum blossoms sprout and grow. Usually use them 1 to 2 times in January. Use solid fertilizers once a month and liquid fertilizers twice a month. The amount should be small. Fertilization starts in May and continues until mid-August, when the differentiation of plum buds is completed.
