Songmei cultivation methods and precautions

Songmei cultivation methods and precautions

Songmei is known as the leader of the four kings of spring orchids. Its stalks are relatively high, giving a feeling that the flowers are blooming out of the frame, and the probability of double flowers is also very high. It is not difficult to maintain. In addition to proper light and ventilation, you must pay attention to watering. Watering is the key to growing Songmei well.

How to cultivate Songmei

Growing Songmei requires soil with good drainage and at least four hours of diffuse light every day. It should avoid strong light at ordinary times. The maintenance temperature should be kept at around 25 degrees. Proper ventilation and water changes should be made. Fertilizer should be applied once every half a month. Fertilization should be reduced during the dormant period, and the water temperature for watering should be consistent with the room temperature.

1. Soil

The roots of Songmei are sensitive to water. If there is too much water in the soil, it will affect the root respiration and the growth of the plant. Therefore, when choosing planting soil, the drainage performance of the soil must be considered, and it must be good enough.

2. Lighting

The growth of many plants cannot be separated from sunlight, and Songmei is no exception. However, when exposing it to light, avoid strong light and only allow it to receive scattered light. Moreover, the exposure time cannot exceed five hours. If the light exposure time exceeds the limit, its branches and leaves will droop, which is not conducive to its growth.

3. Temperature

Songmei is not cold-resistant or heat-resistant, and the maintenance temperature needs to be kept at around 20 degrees so that it can grow well. When maintaining it in the winter, avoid open-air maintenance. If maintaining it indoors, ventilate frequently to control the temperature.

4. Fertilization

Songmei consumes a lot of fertilizer and needs to be supplemented with decomposed fertilizer every two weeks. After entering the dormant period, the amount of fertilizer should be gradually reduced until it is stopped.

Songmei Maintenance Precautions

When caring for Songmei, you should pay attention to keeping the water temperature consistent with the room temperature when watering in winter. If the temperature difference is too large, it will affect the dormancy period of the plant and disrupt its metabolic process. The water cannot be directly connected to the tap water. The water should be dried and treated before it can be used for the plants. The freshly connected water contains chlorine, which is not conducive to the growth of the plant, so it needs to be treated before use. In addition to tap water, rainwater or snow water can also be used.
