What is the plant

1. What is the plant?

The tile pine is a biennial herb that gets its name because it can grow on tiles and its shape resembles a pine tree. In the first year of its growth, it will only grow leaves, and in the second year it will grow flower stems. Its flowers are red, have 5 petals, and are only about 5-6 mm in size. It blooms in August and September, bears fruit in September and October, and then dies.

2. Growth habits

The stonecrop is relatively drought-resistant, but is very afraid of waterlogging, so it is suitable for growing in soil with good drainage. It loves sunlight very much. Long-term shade will cause the leaves and stem nodes to become longer, the overall plant shape will become thin and loose, and the color will turn into pink-green. Since it will grow towards the light, be careful to turn it to avoid bending it.

3. Maintenance and management

1. Watering: The demand for water of the stonecrop is not high, but long-term drought is not conducive to its growth. If the surface of the soil turns white, it means it is relatively dry and needs to be watered in time. When watering, control the amount of water and do not let water accumulate in the soil. In addition, its water demand increases during its flowering period, so it needs more watering, while less watering is needed in winter.

2. Fertilization: The stonecrop can grow in very barren places, so it does not require much fertilizer and can grow well even without fertilizer. In order to provide adequate nutrition, organic fertilizer can be applied once a month during the growing season, and fertilizer should be stopped during the hot season. When it reaches the bud formation stage, you can water it with a little potassium dihydrogen phosphate to help it bloom.
