When are peaches ripe?

When are peaches ripe?

1. Maturity Time

There are many varieties of peaches, and the time at which they ripen varies depending on the variety planted. Some early-maturing varieties mature around June, mid-maturing varieties generally take 1-2 months longer, and late-maturing varieties have to wait until September-November, and sometimes they just grow and mature when frost occurs. If it is grown in a greenhouse, it will mature earlier, usually in May.

In addition, different planting areas will also affect the time of maturity. The peaches in Yangshan, Wuxi ripen around the Qingming Festival, the peaches in Fenghua ripen around May to September, and the peaches in Chongqing ripen in June to July.

2. Purchase Method

The edible value of peaches is higher when they are ripe, so you should choose them carefully when purchasing. When peaches grow to maturity, they have a light fragrance and a layer of white fuzz on the skin. Moreover, the skin is very thin, and the flesh inside is milky white. If the skin has a lot of green, it means that it has not yet grown to maturity.
