Why do the tips of gardenia leaves turn black and dry?

Why do the tips of gardenia leaves turn black and dry?

1. Poor maintenance

Cause: Generally caused by poor ventilation or excessive watering. This situation will improve after improving environmental issues and maintenance methods.

Solution: Move the plant to a well-ventilated place, reduce watering, and water it thoroughly after the soil is dry.

2. Flower soil is acidic

Cause: Too much ferrous sulfate was used, resulting in highly acidic soil in the pot. This will in turn affect the growth of gardenias and cause the leaf tips to turn black.

Solution: If there are not many black leaves, just rinse the potting soil with clean water. If there are many black leaves, you should change the pot and soil in time, and check whether the roots are burned. At the same time, reduce the number of spraying of ferrous sulfate, generally once every one to two months.

3. Soil alkalinity

Reason: Gardenia prefers acidic soil. If the soil has a high alkaline content, the leaves will turn black.

Solution: Add a certain amount of ferrous sulfate solution to the potting soil. You can dilute it with water and spray it on the leaves once a month. Doing it too frequently will be detrimental to growth.

4. Pests

Reason: Root-knot nematodes are one of the common pests of gardenias, and because they are mostly found in the roots, they are difficult to find.

Solution: Check the roots to see if there are nodules. If there are, cut them off and use pesticides to kill insects.
