Difference Between Wasabi and Butterbur

1. Differences in stems

The bottom stem of wasabi is very thick and conical in shape, about 5-25 cm long and 2-4 cm wide, and is light green overall.

The stem of butterbur is about the same length as wasabi, about 10-20 cm, and the rhizome is relatively short and thick.

2. Difference of blades

The leaves of wasabi are clustered and circular in shape. The edges of the leaves have wavy serrations and the petiole length is about 30-35cm, which is relatively long.

The leaves of butterbur are basal, with very long petioles. The leaves are heart-shaped or kidney-shaped, mostly appearing after flowering, about 2.8-6.8 cm in length, and have heavily serrated edges.

3. Flower Difference

The flowers of wasabi are white and bloom from March to April. Its racemes are also white.

The male flowers of butterbur are white or yellowish-white and bloom in April and May.
