Breeding methods and precautions of Guangdong Evergreen

Use soil

Guangdong evergreen likes loose, fertile, humus-rich, well-drained slightly acidic soil. Potting soil can be prepared with peat soil or fine sand and a small amount of manure.

temperature

Guangdong evergreen likes a warm living environment and is not cold-resistant. The wintering temperature should be kept above 5℃ to 8℃ to grow normally. The suitable temperature for wintering of the three varieties of Guangdong Dieffenbachia, namely Java Dieffenbachia, Yellow Spot Dieffenbachia and Variegated Leaf Dieffenbachia, should not be lower than 18℃.

illumination

Guangdong evergreen likes a semi-shady environment, is extremely shade-tolerant, and is afraid of direct sunlight. It can be cultivated and maintained indoors all year round. Even in places where the light is too dim, it will not grow tall like other plants. Avoid direct sunlight in summer. Strong light can easily cause the leaves to dry out, burn around the edges, or even turn yellow, affecting the ornamental effect. Therefore, it is necessary to provide shade when moving indoors in early spring.

Watering

In addition to keeping the soil in the pot moist in summer, watering of Guangdong Evergreen should not be too frequent in spring and autumn, and watering should be controlled in winter. Since Dieffenbachia has fleshy roots, it is most afraid of waterlogging. If it is watered too much, the roots will easily rot. However, the air must be kept moist. If the air is dry, adverse phenomena such as dry leaf tips may easily occur. In the dry season, pay attention to spraying water around the plants to increase the air humidity.

Fertilization

In spring and autumn, apply decomposed cake fertilizer water once every 3 to 4 weeks to make the plants grow strong and the leaves green. Apply liquid fertilizer mainly composed of nitrogen once every two weeks during the growing period.

Pests and diseases

During its growth period, the evergreen is susceptible to leaf spot disease, anthracnose, scale insects, brown soft ants, etc., so attention should be paid to prevention and control.

prune

If the evergreen plant is too tall and has a bad shape, you can retain it after 1~2 nodes and then prune it back. The re-sprouting plants will grow more vigorously. The cut branches with tops can be directly inserted into a water bottle for viewing. After about 30 days, white tender roots will grow. In addition, a few old leaves on the outside of the mature plants should be cut off around the beginning of summer to facilitate the sprouting of new buds, new leaves, and flowers and plants.
