How to propagate heartleaf vine by cuttings

How to propagate heartleaf vine by cuttings

1. Cutting time

It is critical to choose the right time for cuttings. The time for cuttings of heartleaf vine can be selected from May to September. The climate during this period is more suitable for cuttings, and the survival rate is relatively high. Cuttings can also be taken in other seasons, but the survival rate is not as high as in that period.

2. Cut the stem nodes

Choose plants with vigorous growth and good growth. Cut off strong stem nodes from the top. It is required to have good growth and no influence of diseases and pests. 2-3 nodes should be retained on the top. A leaf can be retained on the top, and the leaves below need to be removed. Not too many leaves can be retained, otherwise evaporation will be strong, which is not conducive to rooting and survival in the later stage. After cutting, you cannot do cuttings immediately. You can put it aside to dry first, so that the bottom can become slightly dry.

3. Preparation of matrix

The choice of substrate is also very important. You can use coarse sand or sphagnum moss. Keeping the substrate moist can promote rooting in the later stage.

4. Take cuttings

After all these are prepared, you need to carry out cuttings. Dip the cut stem nodes in rooting powder and then insert them into the substrate. Do a good job of post-care and keep the temperature at 22-24 degrees Celsius. The cuttings will take root in about 20-25 days after cutting.
