Why do the leaves of potted gardenias wither?

Why do the leaves of potted gardenias wither?

1. Bad soil

Reason: Gardenia has certain requirements for soil, and soil that is too alkaline is not suitable for its growth.

Solution: Use leaf mold, peat soil and garden soil to prepare. Leaf mold can add nutrients, and peat soil can improve the pH. In addition, the soil needs to be loosened regularly to avoid compaction.

2. Insufficient watering

Reason: Gardenia has a high demand for water during its growth period, and long-term water shortage will cause the leaves to wither.

Solution: Check the soil regularly and water it if it is dry. Make sure to water enough at a single time, otherwise the water will seep in and the roots won’t be able to absorb it. In addition, the tap water at home cannot be used directly and needs to be left to stand for two days. You can add a little ferrous sulfate when watering to avoid alkaline water.

3. Insufficient nutrients

Reason: Sufficient fertilizer can ensure the healthy growth of the plant, while lack of fertilizer will lead to poor development and leaf withering.

Solution: Generally, base fertilizer should be applied when repotting. During the growing season, the plant should be irrigated with alum fertilizer water every week, and the concentration should not be too high. Remember to stop watering during the flowering period, otherwise it will be harmful to its growth.

4. Lack of light

Reason: Gardenias need plenty of sunlight to thrive, and lack of light will cause their leaves to dry up and fall off.

Solution: Place the potted plant in a sunny location and increase air circulation. Moderate light is beneficial to its growth, but it should not be exposed to direct sunlight. It should be shaded or moved in time at noon.
