How to prolong the flowering period of Gardenia

How to prolong the flowering period of Gardenia

1. Sunlight

Many friends think that gardenia likes sunlight, so after winter, they move it outdoors to allow it to have sufficient exposure to sunlight. Although this approach is correct, as the temperature gradually rises and the sun becomes hotter, appropriate shelter is needed. The flowering period of this plant is from May to July, which coincides with the summer, so it is best to place it in a semi-shaded place at this time to block the sunlight around noon, otherwise the newly opened flowers will easily be exposed to the strong light in summer and wither prematurely.

2. Moisture

Do not water too much during the flowering period, and do not allow water to accumulate in the pot. Before watering, you can observe the soil. If the surface is dry, you can water it, otherwise you cannot.

3. Temperature

If you want to extend the flowering period, temperature is also a factor. The most suitable temperature for it is 16 to 18 degrees, so during the flowering period, you should choose a place with suitable temperature to place it. If the temperature is too high, you can also artificially cool it down.

4. Humidity

Do not spray water on the plants during the flowering period. Once water droplets form in the center of the flower, the flowers will easily rot and wither prematurely. But at this time, you can spray more water around the plants. First, it can lower the temperature, and second, it can increase the humidity of the environment, which is conducive to the growth of flowers and prolonging the flowering period.

5. Nutrients

Nutrition is also very important. During its growing period, fertilizer should be applied once every half a month. When flower buds appear, add 1 to 2 additional times of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. However, it should be noted that if too much nitrogen fertilizer is applied, it will easily cause bud drop.
