As a common indoor foliage plant, lucky bamboo is popular among families for its evergreen leaves. It is usually grown hydroponically and placed in an indoor environment. It is relatively simple to maintain and rarely causes problems. So how can you grow lucky bamboo so that it grows well and doesn’t have yellow leaves? 1. Remove the bottom leaves Before placing the newly purchased lucky bamboo in a vase, you should first remove the leaves at the bottom of the stem and clean the bark of the stem, leaving only the leaves at the top that are growing well. Doing so can reduce nutrient consumption and prevent leaves from rotting in the water, affecting water quality. 2. Trim the base of the stem In addition to removing the bottom leaves, you should also trim any stems that are too long and remove old cuts, as they may have dried out and are not conducive to water absorption and the growth of new roots. Recutting the base of the stem into a 45-degree slope will help the lucky bamboo take root and absorb nutrients faster. 3. Control water level When hydroponically cultivating lucky bamboo , it is not advisable to fill the vase with water. Depending on the height of the vase, add 8 to 10 cm of water. When the water level drops, it is replenished to the original level. This can prevent the stems from being immersed in water for a long time, which will cause respiratory obstruction and yellowing of the leaves. 4. Regular nutritional supplements One of the reasons why the leaves of lucky bamboo grown in water easily turn yellow is lack of nutrients. Since nutrients in the water are limited, plant nutrient solution should be added regularly or iron nails should be placed in the vase to promote vigorous growth of the plant. 5. Keep the water clean Newly inserted lucky bamboo needs to have its water changed frequently, every 2 to 3 days in summer and once a week in other seasons. For lucky bamboo that has already taken root, the water change cycle can be extended to half a month. When changing the water, rinse the roots with clean water to remove sticky substances that may affect absorption. In short, following these maintenance details can effectively prevent the yellowing of lucky bamboo leaves and maintain its vigorous growth and bright leaf color.
