When to plant Polygonatum sibiricum?

If you choose the rhizome propagation method, the rhizomes of Polygonatum are usually dug up between November each year and March of the following year. After proper processing, planting can begin when the surface temperature rises. If seed propagation is used, the seeds are generally harvested in August, stored in sand, and then sown in March of the following year.

Polygonatum sibiricum planting conditions

1. Soil conditions

Polygonatum prefers a moist and well-drained soil environment and is suitable for growing in deep, loose and fertile loam or sandy loam. Therefore, a plot with good water retention capacity and shade should be selected for planting.

2. Lighting requirements

Polygonatum sibiricum is adapted to growing in semi-shady environments, such as under the shade of trees, in bushes or on the shady side of a hillside. Prolonged strong direct sunlight should be avoided to avoid affecting its growth.

3. Water management

Polygonatum needs sufficient water during its growth period, but the amount of watering should be moderate to prevent the soil from being too wet and causing diseases. It is recommended to water regularly to keep the soil moderately moist, generally maintaining a humidity of about 50%.

4. Fertilization

Before planting, apply sufficient base fertilizer, about 2,000 kilograms of organic fertilizer per acre of land. During the growing season, top dressing should be carried out 3 to 4 times as needed. 1,500 kg of soil and miscellaneous fertilizer, 50 kg of superphosphate and 50 kg of cake fertilizer can be applied per mu. After mixing, apply evenly in the furrows between rows and cover with soil in time.

The above is an introduction to the planting time and key points of Polygonatum sibiricum. Although Polygonatum sibiricum is a Chinese medicinal material with high demand, it is not recommended that you blindly follow the trend, because sales channels are not easy to find.
