Common kapok pests

Common kapok pests

Ceiba spp.

The larvae are green and shiny, about 25 mm long, and turn pink before pupating. They are covered with sparse long hairs, with black thoracic and anal legs and translucent abdominal legs.

The adult body is 10 to 14 mm long, with a wingspan of 22 to 30 mm. It is light yellow in color, with 12 brown-black dots arranged in 4 rows on the back of the head and thorax ; there are yellow-brown bands on the front edge of each abdominal segment , and the antennae are filamentous.

Prevention and treatment methods:

( 1 ) Strengthen management and remove weeds and dead branches and leaves in a timely manner to create an environment that is not conducive to the occurrence of the insect.

( 2 ) Manual control: Cut off the cylindrical leaves of the leaf roller to kill the larvae and reduce the damage caused by the next generation.

( 3 ) When the insecticide control is serious, spray 20% peach Xiaoling EC or 20% chrysanthemum killing EC at a dilution of 2000 times to suppress the insects.

Increase the density of the mouth and reduce the loss. If the leaves have curled into tubes, it is best to use systemic pesticides for prevention and control.

Kapok Green Leafhopper

The adults and nymphs of the kapok green leafhopper suck the sap from the tender shoots of kapok trees, causing the leaves to twist after unfolding, affecting their growth and even causing the leaves to wither and fall off.

Prevention and treatment methods:

1. Remove weeds and fallen leaves in winter and spring, and spray the ground once if necessary to reduce the source of insects.

2. Seize the opportunity before the annual peak and during the early nymph stage to spray 40% omethoate, 50% fenitrothion, 50% phoxim, 80% dichlorvos EC at 1000-1500 times dilution, or 20% bromethrin, 40% cypermethrin EC at 2000-3000 times dilution , or 2.5% diazinon, 2.5% kungfu EC, 50% cypermethrin EC at 3000 times dilution. Spray again after 7 days for better results.
