Goldfinger Pests and Control Methods

Goldfinger Pests: Scale Insects

Symptoms of harm

The scale insect is white in color, pear-shaped, flat, with a wider front end and a slightly pointed back end. It mainly appears on poorly grown golden fingers, where there is enough room between the yellow thorns to move around. April to September is the peak season for scale insects, and once they appear they will multiply in large numbers.

Although the golden finger is covered with thorns, it still cannot stop the invasion of scale insects. The adult insects will suck the branches and leaves in the stems, and the affected parts will gradually turn white. The growth of the plants is inhibited, and in severe cases the plants will rot and the sphere will become hollow.

Prevention and treatment methods

① Manual removal. If you have enough patience and eyesight, you can consider killing them one by one. It is even simpler to rinse them with clean water.

② Strengthen maintenance and pay attention to ventilation to reduce the occurrence of insect pests.

③Do a good job of prevention and treatment. During the maintenance period, spray fungicides once a month, or irrigate the roots with carbendazim during the winter. After discovering insect pests, spray 1000 times diluted 40% oxydemeton-methyl in time and spray frequently to kill the pests. If you have children at home, it is recommended to take the medicine outdoors for spraying.

Goldfinger Pests: Red Spider

Symptoms of harm

Red spider mites are mites that are less than 1 mm long, round or oval, and orange or reddish brown. Red spider mites have strong reproductive abilities, reproduce rapidly, and cause serious damage. Especially under high temperature and drought conditions, a generation can be reproduced in 5 days.

The larvae of red spider mites will parasitize on the golden fingers and suck the branches and leaves, causing the color to become dull and the plant to wither.

Prevention and treatment methods

① Prevention: Spray fungicides every 7 to 10 days during the hot and dry season; spray with 800 to 1000 times of 50% DDT once a week, 2 to 3 times can be effective for prevention. Spray thoroughly before wintering.

② If a small amount of pests are found, they can be washed away with clean water. If there are more pests, spray 40% omethoate solution.
