Cyclamen repotting and post-management

Cyclamen repotting and post-management

Repotting process

Repotting time

The first repotting is from Qingming to Guyu, when the outdoor temperature in northern China is 18℃-25℃, with a large temperature difference between day and night. After repotting, the nutrient supply area in the substrate can be increased in time to provide the necessary conditions for the first growth period of cyclamen.

The second repotting is after the beginning of autumn and before the beginning of frost.

Flower Pot Selection

It is best to use an unglazed clay pot with good air permeability. Newly purchased unglazed clay pots need to be soaked in clean water for 30 minutes before use. Old clay pots must be soaked and disinfected in 1/5000 potassium permanganate solution or about 1000 times broad-spectrum fungicide solution for 30 minutes, while removing dirt, moss and other attachments inside and outside the pots.

Matrix preparation

Add an appropriate amount of granular phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer to the previously planted substrate.

Repotting method

When repotting, it should be done in an environment covered with a shade net. First, fill the bottom of the pot with 2 cm thick ash slag or coarse sand as a drainage layer, and then fill in a small amount of substrate. Knock out the plant with a lump and place it in the center of the flowerpot, then fill the flowerpot with the substrate and compact it. Make sure that 1/3 of the plant's bulb is exposed above the substrate and that the substrate is 2 cm below the edge of the pot.

Management after repotting

Seedling management

Water the substrate thoroughly, pay attention to moisturizing during the seedling growth period, and disinfect the wounds of broken petioles in time. The usual practice is to spray the plants with 800 times diluted agricultural streptomycin. Routine management can be resumed after about a week.

First repotting management

Spray 500-800 times liquid fertilizer on the leaves every 7-10 days, and shade the plants between 10 am and 4 pm. Control watering according to the basic principle of "better dry than wet". Water thoroughly only when the substrate is dry to the point where the leaves are about to wilt.

Second repotting management

Apply fully decomposed thin fertilizer water made from bean cake or horseshoe every half a month, and spray the leaves with 300-500 times the concentration of potassium dihydrogen phosphate liquid fertilizer 2-3 times a month. In winter, flower pots should be placed at a certain distance to avoid overlapping of leaves. Excess leaves in the center of the plant can be removed. The flower pots should be rotated frequently according to the growth of the plant.
