Diseases and Pests of Peony and Their Control

Diseases of Peony

What are the diseases of red peony?

The common diseases of red peony are stem rot and gray mold. Both of these diseases are fungal diseases.

The cause of stem rot is relatively complex, and is caused by single or combined infection of multiple fungi and bacteria. Stem rot develops rapidly and is very harmful, easily causing the peony plant to rot or even die.

Gray mold is caused by fungi. When the red peony is infected with gray mold, gray-white lesions appear, the plant becomes soft and rots, and may even die from the disease.

Disease prevention and control methods of red peony

In daily life, we should pay attention to the growth management of the red peony, so that the red peony can grow healthily and vigorously, and prevent the occurrence of stem rot and gray mold.

When the disease breaks out, you can spray 2500 times diluted 50% carbendazim wettable powder for treatment. In severe cases, if the plant rots, you can remove the rotten part and select the healthy part to re-graft it so that the red peony can reproduce again.

Pests of red peony

The main pests of red peony

The most common pest of red peony is red spider mites.

Red spider mites are very harmful to red peonies. In hot and rainy seasons, red spider mites grow very rapidly and seriously endanger the health of the red peony. The entire ball of the red peony turns gray-brown, reducing its ornamental value. In severe cases, red spider mites can even cause the death of the red peony.

Pest control methods for red peony

There are three main methods for controlling red spider mites: manual control, pesticide control and natural enemy control.

Artificial control is a relatively safe method. In the daily maintenance of the red peony, observe it frequently and when red spider mites are found to be causing damage, capture them manually and eliminate them.

Pesticide control is a simple and effective method. When insect pests occur, spray them with 1000 times diluted 40% dimethoate emulsifiable concentrate, and use drugs such as carbendazim in combination to prevent and control diseases caused by pests.

Natural enemy control is also a method. Use the red spider's natural enemies to reduce its damage. But one disadvantage of this method is that it may cause new pests.

It is best to focus on prevention when it comes to red spider mite infestation on the red peony. Ventilate the room more often, increase air humidity, and avoid creating an environment suitable for the growth of red spider mites, so as to minimize the infestation.
