When is the best time to plant Moringa?

Moringa sowing time

Moringa, also known as drumstick tree and wasabi tree, is a plant of the Moringaceae family. It has 14 varieties, of which Indian moringa and African moringa are edible. It has strong adaptability to the environment and can be sown once a year. Moringa likes a warm environment and is suitable for planting in March in spring. Then it will start to supply fresh vegetables between February and March of the following year.

Moringa sowing method

1. Seed selection: Only plump new seeds have a high germination rate. If they are cheap and low-quality old seeds, their germination rate will be very low no matter how carefully they are maintained.

2. Germination: Although germination looks simple, it still requires certain skills. Do not germinate too large. It is best to soak the Moringa seeds in warm water for 8 to 10 hours.

3. Soil: Moringa seeds are best planted in loose, fertile and moist soil that is rich in organic matter. The soil must have good drainage to avoid water accumulation.

4. Sowing: Moringa seeds are relatively large, but the planting depth should not be too deep, otherwise the roots will have difficulty breathing, which will cause the seedlings to be suffocated. 2-4 cm is appropriate.

Moringa ripe for harvest

Moringa grows slowly and needs careful care for a year after sowing before it matures. If planted in March in spring, it will mature in February or March of the following year. The annual yield per mu of Moringa is about 15 kilograms.
