Common diseases of lettuce and their prevention and control methods

Soft Rot

Soft rot is a bacterial disease that is prone to occur in a humid environment. The diseased plants rot and have a foul odor.

Once you find that the lettuce has soft rot, pull it out immediately, clean it up, and spray a small amount of fungicide in time if possible.

Sclerotinia

Sclerotinia disease is a serious threat to lettuce. When the disease occurs, yellow-brown spots appear on the leaves, gradually spreading and the entire stem will slowly rot. Therefore, once the plant is infected with sclerotinia disease, it is basically inedible.

Before planting, the soil must be disinfected to prevent the growth of lettuce from being affected by planting in contaminated soil. During the maintenance period, timely ventilation is required. After the seedlings grow, spraying with fungicide or powder can effectively combat sclerotinia disease.

Downy Mildew

Downy mildew of lettuce can occur in both the seedling and adult plant stages, but the damage is more serious in adult plants. When the disease occurs, pale yellow, nearly circular spots appear on the leaves from bottom to top, and white colonies will grow when the environment is humid. If potted plants are infected with downy mildew, they are basically inedible and prevention measures must be taken.

Increase the planting density appropriately and water and fertilize in time. If you find a small number of disease spots on the plant, pull them out in time to prevent them from infecting other plants.
