Disease and Pest Control of Rabbit Ear Orchid

Disease and Pest Control of Rabbit Ear Orchid

1. Growth habits

Before getting into the topic, I have to explain to you the growth habits of rabbit ear orchid. Only in this way can we prevent the occurrence of diseases and pests to the greatest extent. Rabbit ear orchid likes warm and relatively humid climatic conditions, and can tolerate shade. It likes acidic soil containing a lot of humus, and the soil must have good drainage properties. Before planting rabbit ear orchid, the soil must be sterilized to ensure that it is free of bacteria and pollution. The environment in which the rabbit ear orchid lives should be ventilated and breathable. When watering, make sure the water is clean and unpolluted, and water only when the soil is completely dry. When it comes to fertilization, you need to apply dilute fertilizers, the frequency should not be too high, and you should not apply fertilizers when the temperature is below 15 degrees or above 30 degrees. In addition, although the rabbit ear orchid is relatively cold-resistant, the temperature cannot be too low, otherwise its flowering time will be delayed!

2. Disease prevention and control

1. White rot. This disease is relatively easy to occur, usually during the rainy season. In the early stages of the disease, you will find that the leaves are covered with white silk. In severe cases, it will cause the roots to rot or even the entire plant to die. The specific prevention and control method is to replace the soil containing bacteria and sprinkle a layer of lime or tetrachloronitrobenzene on it. The most fundamental method is to ensure that the environment in which the rabbit ear orchid lives has good ventilation and light transmittance. When the disease is particularly serious, the entire plant must be burned to prevent mutual infection.

2. Anthracnose. This disease occurs throughout the year, but is most serious when the temperature is high and there are continuous rainy days. The lesions first spread from the tips of the leaves to the roots of the rabbit ear orchid. They are brown at first, then slowly expand and many black spots appear. In severe cases, the entire plant will die. The method of prevention and control is to first ensure that the living environment of rabbit ear orchid is suitable for its growth. Then, in the early stage of the disease, you can use methyl thiophanate to control it, spray it once a week, and then spray it with 1% equal amount of Bordeaux liquid, use it once every half a month, and do it three to five times in a row.

3. Pest Control

The main pest of rabbit ear orchid is scale insect, which spreads fastest when the temperature, humidity and ventilation are high. During routine maintenance, you must observe carefully and promptly scrape away the pests when you first discover them, or spray them with medicine.
