Reasons why gardenias are not well cared for

Reasons why gardenias are not well cared for

1. Reasons

(1) Improper maintenance conditions

Gardenia mostly grows in the south, where the soil is generally acidic, so gardenia prefers acidic soil. However, when gardenia is moved to the north where the soil acidity is not high, the soil conditions cannot create a suitable growth environment for gardenia, so its growth will gradually weaken. In addition, the south is rainy and the air humidity is high, while the air in the north is dry and cannot provide sufficient water vapor, so gardenias are difficult to maintain.

(2) Water quality

Many people choose to water the plants directly with tap water, but this is actually the direct reason why they cannot be grown well. Tap water is hard water, which contains a lot of fluorine and chlorine compounds and calcium and magnesium compounds. If it is used directly to water flowers, lime will gradually be deposited in the soil. After a long time, the potting soil will become alkaline, which creates the alkaline soil environment that gardenias most hate, putting their growth at a disadvantage.

2. Solutions

(1) The soil for growing it should be carefully selected. It is best to use a mixture of 70% slightly acidic sandy loam and 30% leaf humus. To control the acidity, the pH of the soil should always be between 4.0 and 6.5. Ferrous sulfate can be used every three weeks to increase the acidity.

(2) Before watering gardenias, you need to place the tap water in the sun for 2 to 3 days to wait for chlorine and other substances to evaporate before using it, or you can use rainwater directly to water the flowers. In addition, to appropriately increase the humidity of the air, you can spray the leaves 2 or 3 times a day, which can help cool the plants and increase the humidity.
