The reason why gardenia leaves turn black in winter

The reason why gardenia leaves turn black in winter

1. The temperature is too low

Reason: Winter temperature is the main reason. If the surrounding temperature is far below the suitable range, the plant will find it difficult to adapt. In severe cases, frost damage will occur, causing black leaves.

Solution: Pay attention to weather changes, move indoors when it gets cold, avoid exposure to cold wind, and adjust the temperature to a suitable range.

2. Root damage

Cause: If the leaves turn black, it is likely that you are not paying attention during maintenance and over-watering has caused root damage, resulting in root rot, and there is no way to supply water and nutrients.

Solution: If the rot is not serious, you can prune the roots moderately to remove the rotten roots. If you find that too much water has been applied, you need to drain it out in time and loosen the soil appropriately to allow the water to penetrate downwards.

3. Diseases

Reason: Growing in a hot and stuffy environment for a long time, the plant is prone to insect pests, which is also one of the important reasons. It not only causes black leaves, but in severe cases may cause the death of the plant.

Solution: Pay attention to ventilation conditions and do not keep it in an airtight environment all the time. This can prevent the occurrence of pests. When insect pests are found, they can be eliminated manually first and pesticides can be sprayed if necessary.
