Can pregnant women at home raise evergreens?

Is it poisonous?

Dieffenbachia is a poisonous plant included in the Chinese Plant Atlas Database. The whole plant is poisonous, with the stem being the most toxic, followed by the petiole and leaves.

This plant is the most poisonous plant in the Araceae family. Its juice causes itching and dermatitis when it comes into contact with the skin . Swallowing a small tuber will cause extreme stinging in the mouth and throat and cause paralysis of the vocal cords, so it is called a "dumb stick".

There are also burns, edema and excessive drooling on the surface of the lips and tongue, which affect swallowing and breathing. Symptoms may last for a few days or more than a week. In severe cases, swelling of the mouth and tongue can cause suffocation. Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea sometimes occur.

Can I keep it at home?

OK. The growth of Dieffenbachia is quite strange. Young Dieffenbachia plants are suitable for viewing as potted plants. Gradually, the color of the leaves first turns green and then turns bright red. They are mostly used as large decorations in living rooms and study rooms.

Medium-sized potted plants can be placed in the corners of the living room or next to the sofa as decoration.

Can I raise a baby if there is a pregnant woman at home?

Although evergreen has the effect of purifying nicotine and formaldehyde, it is recommended to move it out of the room if there is a pregnant woman at home, because the juice in its flowers and leaves contains toxins. If the pregnant mother accidentally ingests it, it will cause swelling and pain in the mouth, throat, esophagus, gastrointestinal tract, or tumors, seriously damage the pregnant mother's vocal cords, and even make the pregnant mother mute.

The sap from the purple bracts of the evergreen ivy is poisonous and contact with the sap may cause severe itching and stinging of the skin. Therefore, it is recommended not to plant evergreens in pregnant women’s homes. If planted, pregnant women should not come into contact with them.
