How to ferment fruit peels to make fertilizer

How to ferment fruit peels to make fertilizer

1. How to make fruit peel water

Prepare a variety of fruit peels, such as dragon fruit peel, lemon peel, banana peel, watermelon peel, tangerine peel, orange peel, etc. Use a kitchen knife or blender to crush the peels, then prepare rice water and brown sugar, and put the fruit peels, rice water and brown sugar into a plastic bucket in a ratio of 3:10:1. Be careful not to fill it up, just fill it to 2/3 of the height of the plastic bucket to prevent the peel water from expanding and exploding the bottle during the fermentation process.

2. How to ferment peel water

After the peel water is mixed, the lid of the plastic bucket should be tightly closed for anaerobic fermentation. In the early stage of fermentation, the lid should be opened for ventilation every day to prevent the bottle from exploding. After ventilation, the bottle cap should be screwed on and the plastic bucket should be shaken to continue fermentation. If you are worried about the air being released when the bottle is opened during the peak season one day, you can unscrew the bottle cap, cover the bottle hole with a balloon, and deflate the balloon after it is filled with gas and becomes larger.

3. How to water flowers with fruit peel water

The fruit peel water must be fully decomposed before it can be used to water the flowers. Usually, if there is no gas produced in the plastic bucket and the fruit peel water has no odor but only a slightly sour smell, it means that the fruit peel fertilizer has been completely decomposed and can be diluted 20 times with water. The flowers can be watered once every half a month. The fertility of fruit peel water is not high, but it is acidic. Regular watering of flowers can regulate the pH value of the soil. It is very suitable for flowers that like acid, such as jasmine, camellia, gardenia, azalea, etc.
