The efficacy and function of Millettia reticulata

The efficacy and function of Millettia reticulata

1. Morphological characteristics

The most special thing about it is that there is a substance in its stem that is not found in other similar bean plants. When its stem is cut, its woody part will turn reddish brown, and then bright red juice will flow out, which looks very much like chicken blood, so people call it chicken blood vine.

Its taproot is brown and purple when cut. Its stem is green and has lenticels on it. The leaves are oval in shape, generally 6-13 cm long and 3-6 cm wide. The tepals of female and male flowers are very similar and large, with pedicels 7-15 mm long. Its fruit is spherical, generally 5-10 cm in diameter. It blooms in May and June, the flowers are very colorful, the fruits ripen in September, and in the severe winter it is generally semi-evergreen, so it is very popular.

2. Medicinal Value

It tastes bitter with a hint of sweetness, is warm in nature, and can activate menstrual blood circulation. It can be used if you have rheumatism, numbness in your hands and feet, paralysis of the body, or if women have irregular menstruation, blocked meridians, dysmenorrhea, or amenorrhea. If you want to treat joint pain caused by rheumatism, you can take red peony root, astragalus, angelica, salvia miltiorrhiza, etc. together. If used for female menstrual problems, it can be eaten together with motherwort, cyperus rotundus, etc.

In addition, it also has a good effect on hematopoiesis, coagulation, lowering blood pressure, anti-cancer, and metabolic regulation.
