How to grow butterfly flowers

How to grow butterfly flowers

Temperature requirements

The suitable temperature for cultivation during the day is 25-28℃, and the night temperature is 18-20℃. The temperature of the seedlings should be raised to about 23℃ at night. In such a temperature environment, the butterfly flower is in a state of growth almost all year round, especially the seedlings grow rapidly; the seedlings removed from the test tube will bloom in about 1-2 years.

Humidity requirements

The native habitat of butterfly flowers is usually moist grassland, and an environment with high air humidity needs to be created during cultivation. Generally speaking, the humidity should be maintained at 60-80% throughout the year. The climate in most parts of the north is dry in spring, autumn and winter, so we must try to increase the air humidity in the cultivation environment. This can be done by sprinkling water on the ground, stands, walls, etc. several times a day, or by applying a small amount of water to the plant leaves to increase the humidity of the local environment.

Lighting requirements

When cultivating butterfly flowers, be sure to avoid strong light exposure and provide good sunshade conditions. Although the leaves of the butterfly flower are wide and thick, and store abundant water, the cuticle and drought-resistant structure of the leaf surface are relatively poor. Therefore, once exposed to direct sunlight, the leaves lose a lot of water, or if water is not replenished in time, the leaves are prone to sunburn.

Precautions

The winter and spring seasons in North China are often sunny and there are fewer rainy days, so proper shading is needed at this time.

When the summer sun is strong and the temperature is too high, sunshade nets or bamboo curtains should be placed outside the greenhouse glass to play the dual role of cooling the greenhouse and shading. The shading amount should be above 60%. In autumn, you only need to block about 40%.
