1. Seeding methodHibiscus is usually planted in May, and it is best to plant it directly in the open ground. The seed coat of this flower is very hard, so before sowing you need to select flower seeds with full seeds, then soak the seeds in warm water for about twelve hours, and then plant the seeds in the potting soil when the flower seeds swell and are about to sprout. After that, you must pay attention to watering. It is best to keep the soil slightly moist. You can also cover it with plastic film to keep it warm, which can promote seed germination. Under normal conditions, it will take one to two weeks to germinate. When the leaves begin to grow, gradually remove the covering film and remove the weak seedlings, leaving only healthy and plump seedlings. Apply a light liquid fertilizer once a week or so to ensure adequate nutrients and promote the growth of seedlings. After the seedlings have four or five leaves, they can be transplanted. 2. Cutting methodIt is relatively simple to propagate hibiscus by cuttings. During the growth period of the plant, choose a healthy, thick, mature branch with tender buds, about 10-15cm in length, trim off the leaves in the lower half, and only keep three or five tender leaves on the top. Insert the branches into moist sandy soil, about half of the cuttings are submerged, then water them properly to ensure the soil is moist. Pay attention to providing proper shade for the new plants to avoid direct sunlight. The branches will take root and grow in about a month, and then gradually reduce shade and increase light for normal maintenance. 3. Division methodIt is best to propagate hibiscus by division in spring and autumn. Dig the mother plant out of the soil, gently remove the excess soil on the roots, rinse the roots clean, and cut off and trim the remaining roots and rotten roots. Divide the mother plant into several small bundles following its natural growth trend, making sure that each bundle contains a portion of healthy roots. Plant the separated bunches of small plants separately in the prepared soil, pay attention to proper watering and carry out reasonable routine maintenance. The survival rate of hibiscus propagated by division is generally high, and it can usually resume normal growth and bloom as scheduled in the year of division. |
