The cultivation methods and precautions of Yulu

Morphological characteristics

The appearance of Yulu is very consistent with its name, clear as jade and cool as dew.

Jade dew is a perennial succulent herb. The plant grows alone at first and then gradually grows in groups.

The fleshy leaves are arranged in a compact rosette shape. The leaves are thick, plump, emerald green, and the upper half is transparent or translucent, called the "window". There are dark linear veins. When there is sufficient sunlight, the veins are brown and there are tiny "whiskers" on the top of the leaves.

Inflorescence loose racemes, small white flowers.

Breeding points

Watering

Jade plant likes a cool semi-shaded environment. Its main growing season is in spring and autumn. It is drought-resistant but not cold-resistant. It avoids high temperature, humidity and scorching sun. It is afraid of shade and waterlogging in the soil.

Therefore, in midsummer, you must water less to prevent water accumulation in the potting soil, which will cause root rot.

Jade plants cannot withstand rain, so if you grow them on the balcony, don’t forget about this small pot of jade plants when it rains!

illumination

Sufficient light should be given during the growing period. If it is too shaded, the plant will become loose and not compact, the leaves will be long and thin, and the transparency of the "window" will be poor.

If the light is too strong, the leaves will grow poorly and appear light reddish-brown. Sometimes strong direct sunlight will burn the leaves, leaving unsightly scars. Plants growing in semi-shade have thick, full leaves and high transparency.

In summary, provide bright light, but not direct sunlight.

humidity

Jade plant likes an environment with a certain air humidity. When the air is dry, you can often spray water on the plant and the surrounding environment to increase the air humidity.

During the growing season, you can also use a transparent colorless beverage bottle with the upper half cut off to cover the plant and maintain it, allowing it to grow in a small environment with humid air. This will make the leaves fuller and the "window" more transparent.

However, the cover must be removed during the hot summer season to prevent the plants from rotting due to the heat.

What to do if you don't want flower scapes

If you do not want pollination and reproduction, you can remove the flower stalks that appear during the growth period. It should be noted that the flower stalks should not be cut with scissors, but should be pulled out by shaking left and right with your hands. This can avoid the residual flower stalks remaining between the leaves, which will adversely affect the growth of new leaves in the future.

Precautions

The plump and fresh petals of Jade Plant are its most adorable feature. In order to prevent the petals from drying out, you must pay attention to watering and light treatment during the growing period.

When watering during the growing period, follow the principle of "don't water unless the soil is dry, and water thoroughly when you do", avoid waterlogging, and don't let it get wet in the rain, especially for a long time, to avoid root rot.

However, it is not suitable for long-term drought, otherwise the leaves will become shriveled, dull in color, and lack vitality. Lost the luster of "Jade Dew".

Jade dew prefers a semi-shaded environment. In terms of light, it cannot be exposed to direct sunlight, nor can it be fully shaded. Therefore, it is best to have a balcony corner to grow jade plants.
