Symbolism of olive flowers

Olive tree as national flower

Olive flower is the national flower of Greece, Tunisia and Cyprus. This flower symbolizes the pride of the Greek nation and the prosperity of the country. When competitions were held, olive branches were used as laurel wreaths to reward the winners. The olive branch is also used as a symbol of peace. Tunisia in North Africa is rich in olives and is known as the "Olive Garden of the World". The flag of Cyprus is printed with two green olive branches, and the olive is regarded as a symbol of peace, wisdom and victory.

The olive branch is the branch of the olive tree, which is the national tree of Greece. The original plant is an evergreen shrub of the Sapotaceae family with beautiful tree shape and lush branches and leaves. It was introduced to my country in the 1960s and is now cultivated as an ornamental plant in many areas. It blooms small white flowers in September every year, bears fruit in October, and the fruits turn from green to red and mature in November.

The legendary olive flower

The origin of the dove and olive branch: the symbol of peace

There is a story in the New Testament: Once upon a time there was a man named Noah. One day, he heard the voice of God. God said that because of people’s sins, a flood would come and destroy the world. God told him to build a big boat, saying that this would help him escape death. So Noah and his sons built a large rectangular wooden box-shaped ship called the Ark. When the flood came, Noah and his family boarded the ark, and also brought lions, tigers, rabbits, ducks, butterflies and other animals on board in pairs.

The water level grew higher and higher. After a few days, the stream became a rapids, the mud became a large lake, and the ark drifted back and forth on the turbulent water. After many days, the rain stopped, but the flood had not receded, and the ark came to rest on the top of a high mountain. Noah opened the cage and released a little gray dove. But the pigeon soon flew back and flapped its wings in front of the cage. A few days later, Noah released the dove again. This time, when the dove flew back, it had a freshly plucked olive leaf in its beak. Noah knew that the flood had completely receded and peace had come. He, his wife, son, and grandchildren got off the boat and walked to the top of the mountain in the morning light. The animals followed them out of the ark. Before them, there was no longer a raging flood, but a valley full of green trees and a mountain path lined with flowers.

Later, people used doves and olive branches to symbolize peace.
