Hops cultivation method

Hops cultivation method

Hops growth requirements

illumination

Hops particularly likes light and is a long-day plant. It needs about 1700-2600 hours of sunshine throughout the year. Remember to let it get more sunbathing.

temperature

The temperature should not be too high, 14℃-25℃ is enough, because hops prefer cool environments and are cold-resistant but afraid of heat.

soil

Hops are very generous in this regard and do not have very strict soil requirements, but it is best to choose soil that is deep, fertile, loose, well-ventilated, neutral or slightly alkaline.

Key points for growing hops

Fertilization

Hops requires a relatively large amount of fertilizer, and it can be fertilized in combination with watering or irrigation. Nitrogen fertilizer can be applied during the seedling stage, compound fertilizer can be applied during the flowering period, and organic fertilizer can be applied before wintering.

Watering

Hops still like the nourishment of water. You must remember to water it more during the growth period and not to lack water. The same is true before wintering. In addition, sufficient water must be guaranteed during the flowering period, otherwise it will easily affect its growth and yield. By the way, hops do not need to be watered before being removed from the pot.

Pot soil

When replacing the potting soil, first pat the surrounding of the pot with your hands, then hold the hops with one hand, and reach into the drainage hole with the other hand to press the button, so that the roots and soil leave the pot. At this time, you can use a bamboo stick to remove half of the old soil and trim the old roots. Put some broken pieces of pot at the bottom of the pot to help drainage, then you can plant the plant, cover it with new soil and compact it.

prune

Cut off the dead branches, diseased and insect-infested branches, thin branches, dense branches, parallel branches, etc. of the hops. This can ensure the beautiful posture of the hops and allow ventilation and light to allow them to grow better.

Reproduction

The propagation methods of hops include seed propagation, underground stem cuttings, green branch cuttings, and bud propagation. Among them, seed propagation is not recommended. The underground stem cutting method is simple and easy, while the green branch cutting method has the highest survival rate.

This is the end of the introduction on how to grow hops. I hope it will be helpful to everyone.
