Growth habits of Chrysanthemum truncatum

The hanging tube grass, also known as velvet grass, is native to Central America and Mexico. It likes a sunny, humid and hot growing environment. The flowering period is autumn and winter.

Maintenance tips for the spathiphyllum

illumination

Generally, it needs half-day light, but can also receive scattered light throughout the day. If there is insufficient light, the plant will easily grow too tall and fall over, and its flowering ability will also deteriorate. However, in summer, you should avoid direct sunlight and provide shade to prevent the leaves from sunburn.

Watering

Provide adequate water during the growth period. After flowering, the plant will enter a dormant period, the above-ground part will gradually wither, and a bulb will form at the roots. At this time, you should reduce watering and just keep the soil surface slightly moist. Wait until new buds grow in spring before increasing watering.

soil

It is suitable to choose soil with good air permeability and good drainage. It is best to choose perlite, peat soil and Northeast humus nutrient soil mixed in a ratio of approximately 1:1:1.

Fertilization

Before flowering, it is necessary to add appropriate amounts of phosphorus fertilizer and potassium fertilizer. It is recommended to use potassium carbonate diluted with water at a ratio of 1:2000 for root irrigation.

The reproduction method of the genus

There are three main ways to propagate Lagerstroemia indica: bulbs, cuttings and sowing.

Bulb propagation

Divide the bulbs and bury one or several sections in each pot, about 3 cm deep. Keep the soil moist and move them to a bright place after they germinate.

Cutting propagation

Before flowering, cut off about 3 nodes of the top bud, remove the leaves on the lowest node, then insert them into the prepared potting soil, place them in a cool place, and wait for about a week for them to take root.

Seed propagation

Sowing is generally carried out in spring. The suitable temperature for germination is 20-25 degrees. There is no need to cover the seeds with soil. When 4 leaves grow, plant them in pots and they will bloom in the same year. It is advisable to choose slow-release fertilizers when applying fertilizer.
