Succulent plants that die when they bloom

Succulents that die as soon as they bloom

When it comes to succulents that die after flowering, the first thing that comes to mind is the genus Vulgaris. Succulent plants of the genus Sedum are quite special. Basically, they will die after blooming. Common ones include Echeveria, Fuji and Phoenix.

In addition, there are succulents from the genus Asterix, such as Alba and Prodigy; succulents from the genus Echeveria, such as Indica and Deqin Echeveria; and some plants from the genus Sempervivum, which will also die after flowering.

Flowering dead branches of succulent plants

Of course, there are many succulents that will not die as a whole when they bloom, but the flowering branches will die. Because a lot of nutrients are consumed during flowering, the flowering branches will die, and the condition of the entire plant will not be very good.

Such succulents are mainly plants of the genus Aeonium, such as Black Magic and Mountain Rose. When they bloom, only the flowering branch will die.

How to deal with succulent flowering

In fact, most people don’t like to sacrifice the entire succulent plant and want it to bloom, so they need to process it.

Generally, for succulents that die as soon as they bloom or whose flowers are not very beautiful, you can simply cut off their flower buds to prevent them from blooming.

If some succulents are to bloom, you can take off the leaves and use them for cuttings.

If the succulent plant has long flower stems, you can cut the flower stems and use them as flower arrangements, which can also be kept for a longer time.

When succulents bloom, they can be pollinated. They can also pollinate succulents of the same genus, and perhaps new varieties can be produced.
