How to choose succulent plants

How to choose succulent plants

1. Learn and understand

First, you need to learn more and know the basic characteristics of different types of succulents. Secondly, buy them from some reputable merchants. If possible, it is best to buy them from some experienced succulent growers. Again, when purchasing seedlings, try to see the mother plant from which they were separated. It would be best to see one that was cut directly from a better plant. If you are purchasing online, the seller must provide photos or videos of the seedlings and mother plant being separated. The same variety or the same plant of Vientiane may show different colors due to differences in cultivation seasons or environments. For example, the texture of the "window" of "Purple Vientiane" and "Vientiane Big Purple" changes from green to purple due to insufficient light during the growing season or in the cultivation environment. Vientiane Variegated is caused by the variation of variegated leaves. The texture in the leaves is irregular, and the texture color is mainly yellow, but there are also orange-red, light pink and silver-white, but they account for a smaller proportion.

2. According to the quality of "window"

There are many varieties of Vientiane, and the biggest difference lies in the quality of the "windows". Including the size and texture of the windows, the larger the window, the better. If it is a variety without patterns, the color of the "window" must be pure and transparent like a pool of clear water; for varieties with patterns, the best ones have obvious, clear and neatly arranged patterns, and the patterns are mainly white. Occasionally, there are varieties with white patterns with green or purple patterns, but they are relatively rare. When purchasing hybrid succulents of unknown varieties, you should look for those with short plants, large round "windows" and high transparency. If it is white, the texture should be clear, coherent, dense and have high contrast. For the variegated variety, the best quality requires that the patterns on the branches and leaves be evenly and reasonably distributed, and the colors be bright.
