How to sow red clover

How to sow red clover

Collecting seeds

If conditions permit, you can choose seeds that matured in the previous autumn for planting. Be sure to choose seeds that are a little more mature. First, dry them in a place with light and good air circulation for a while. After drying, put the seeds in a bag and store them in the refrigerator. However, the temperature inside should not be too low, just keep it between 0-5℃.

Prepare the substrate

Before planting, you must prepare the planting substrate. Although they are not strict about the soil quality, they still prefer to live in fertile soil so that the plants can grow better. Another requirement is good drainage. If this cannot be achieved, it will easily lead to root rot or even death of the whole plant. Before planting, you should add some organic fertilizer so that the seeds will have sufficient nutrients during the initial growth period, but don't give chemical fertilizers, as they may not be able to adapt.

Sowing time

The planting process is the same as most plants, and they are sown in spring or autumn, which is April-May or September-October. In mountainous areas, you can choose to sow in spring, but if there is no frost or little frost in winter and you have the conditions to water, you can choose to sow in autumn. However, after sowing, the soil should not be covered too thickly, as this will affect germination.

Maintenance after sowing

When the seedlings grow to 5 or 6 cm, you can apply top dressing once every two weeks. At this time, you can choose more suitable fertilizers instead of organic fertilizers. Water the plants immediately after fertilizing so that the fertilizer does not harm the roots. Also, be sure to weed the plants so that they can grow better.
