How to grow passion fruit on the balcony

Preparation of Utensils

Passion fruit cannot be planted too densely. The scientific planting distance is 3 meters. Generally speaking, only one passion fruit can be planted in a medium-sized pot (the size of a washbasin or bucket), or the pot can be larger than this, but not too small. In terms of depth, the cultivation usually needs to be 60 cm deep. Some families use foam boxes for growing vegetables, which can also be used for cultivation. It is also important to emphasize that drainage must be guaranteed. You can drill holes in the bottom of the pot or box to ensure smooth drainage.

Seasonal Choice

Generally, it can be planted all year round, but the best time is February and March, when winter turns to spring. This is also the best time for our passion fruit seedlings to be planted in pots.

Potting seeds or fruit seedlings

The easiest way is to directly dry the passion fruit seeds and put them into a pot. You can soak them in water for 1 to 2 days before putting them into the pot. If you want to increase the germination rate, you can cultivate it in a small container first, and then move it into a large pot after germination. If you choose the cutting method, the requirement is to use one-year-old cuttings, which should be inserted into a small pot with sand, and then moved into a large pot after germination. After potting, be sure to keep the soil moist. It is a vine plant, so be sure to set up a trellis when potting it.

Fertilizing and pruning

When fertilizing, you need to pay attention to increasing the use of potassium fertilizer and avoid overusing nitrogen fertilizer. It is best to use it after flowering. The modification of branches should be done in summer.

Tips

When flowering, pollination needs to be done manually. Apply pollen directly to the pistil head with a soft brush, or spray the pollen sac with melted water. Passion fruit likes sunlight, so be sure to place it in the sun.
