How to fertilize orchids and what fertilizer to use

How to fertilize orchids and what fertilizer to use

1. Fertilization time

Orchids require relatively more fertilizer. The first is the fertilizer used when planting or repotting, which is called base fertilizer. The other is the fertilizer used during its growth period, which also includes the fertilizer used during the flowering period, which is called top dressing.

2. Fertilizer Types

The base fertilizer used when planting or repotting is mainly some solid fertilizer, which contains more organic matter, which is conducive to subsequent growth. The main fertilizer used for top dressing is liquid fertilizer, which can be purchased directly from the store.

3. Fertilization method

1. When planting or repotting, just mix the solid fertilizer evenly with the soil. The liquid fertilizer used for top dressing needs to be diluted with water, and the ratio of fertilizer to water can be controlled at around 1:200.

2. You should also pay attention to the frequency of fertilizing. If the orchid is in the seedling stage, it requires relatively less fertilizer and the number of fertilizations does not need to be too many, about once a month. Adult plants require relatively more fertilizer, about once every two weeks.

3. Nitrogen fertilizer is mainly used in the early growth stage, and phosphorus fertilizer is mainly used during the flowering period.

IV. Precautions

In winter, if the temperature is below 10 degrees, the orchid will basically not grow. At this time, you need to stop fertilizing, otherwise it will cause harm to the plant.
