How to grow potted dahlias

How to grow potted dahlias

1. Soil

Soil is very important to it and directly determines its growth. It is afraid of dry or too wet environment, so the soil must be loose and breathable. Sandy soil and humus soil are the best. In addition, whether it is planted in the ground or in a pot, drainage work must be done in advance, otherwise it will easily die if water accumulates.

2. Temperature

It likes a cool environment and does not have high requirements for the climate. It can normally grow at temperatures between 5 and 35 degrees, but the optimal temperature is around 20 degrees.

3. Lighting

It likes light very much, and must be placed in a sunny place when growing, and the daily light time must be more than 6 hours. If it is less than 4 hours, it will not only affect its flowering, but also make it easy to get disease. Of course, when the sun is too strong in the summer, proper shade must be provided.

4. Watering

It is not only afraid of moisture, but also afraid of dryness, so watering should not be too much or too little. Normally once every 3 to 5 days is enough. But when the temperature is high in summer, it needs to be watered once a day.

5. Fertilization

It likes fertilizer very much, especially during the growing season, and it should be applied every 7 to 10 days. In summer, it goes into a dormant state, so be sure to apply less fertilizer at this time.

6. Pruning

Pruning is extremely important for it and directly affects its flowering period. During maintenance, it is necessary to appropriately remove the side buds below the stem to allow it to continue blooming. If you want to grow large, single flowers, just keep the top buds and remove all other side buds.

7. Prevention of pests and diseases

It is very susceptible to disease and insect invasion, so be sure to spray it and clean it on time, otherwise the plant will die.
