How to Plant Asparagus Seeds

How to Plant Asparagus Seeds

Asparagus seeds can be planted in spring from March to April or in autumn from August to September. The temperature in these two time periods is conducive to the growth of asparagus seeds.

Asparagus has a strong adaptability and can withstand both low and high temperatures. In the southern region, it can grow normally in all kinds of climates. In cold areas, as long as anti-freeze facilities are properly taken, it can also safely overwinter.

Asparagus Seed Planting Steps

Asparagus seeds need to be sown at a distance of 10 cm between each seed. After covering with soil, cover with a layer of straw and then water. The planting bed should be kept moist. When some of the seeds germinate, the covering should be removed. When the seedlings are about 10 cm tall, weeding and top dressing are required.

How to Plant Asparagus Seeds

1. Germination

When planting asparagus, the seeds must be germinated first. Because the shell of asparagus seeds is very hard, if they are sown directly, the germination speed will be relatively slow. Therefore, the seeds should be soaked in water for 3 days and wrapped with moist gauze. After 7 days, white sprouts will grow from the seeds.

2. Sowing and seedling raising

After the seeds germinate, seedlings should be raised immediately. Disposable seedling cups can be used. A few holes can be inserted in the bottom of the cup and ash soil can be filled in. The soil should be kept dry and wet during the seedling raising period. When the asparagus seedlings grow to 15 cm in height, they can be transplanted.

3. Fertilizer and water management

20 days after the asparagus is planted, it is necessary to apply clean manure water in time. A small amount of urea and phosphorus fertilizer should be added to the clean manure water. Apply fertilizer once every 15-20 days to keep the soil moist.
