Palm cultivation methods and precautions

Palm cultivation methods and precautions

1. Maintenance methods

1. Substrate selection: Palm requires soil with good drainage, moisture and fertility. It is resistant to alkalinity, drought and water, and grows well in acidic or slightly alkaline soil.

2. Temperature management: Palms prefer warm and humid climates, and the normal breeding temperature can be between 22-30℃. If the temperature is lower than 15℃, it will enter a dormant state, and if the temperature is higher than 35℃, it will not be conducive to growth.

3. Water management: It likes a humid environment, but cannot be watered too much and cannot have water accumulation, otherwise the roots will rot. Generally, water it once a week. In the summer when the temperature is high, you can increase the watering frequency. In the winter, the growth is slow, so water it once every 10 days or so.

4. Light management: It likes sunlight very much, but it should also be avoided from strong sunlight. It can also be grown in a semi-shaded place.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Pruning: In order to reduce transpiration and increase the survival rate when transplanting, you need to cut off the leaves, leaving 3-5 leaves and 1-2 heart leaves. However, it will take a long time to restore it to its full crown, maybe 2-3 years.

2. Repotting: Repotting should be done every 2-3 years, which can be done in spring. When repotting, add some organic fertilizer to the soil as base fertilizer and compact the newly filled soil. And water it thoroughly and place the pot in a cool place. After a week, move it to a sunny place for maintenance.

3. Problem diagnosis and treatment

1. Root rot: After discovering that its roots are rotten, you should pay attention to water control and also carefully prune the roots. The roots should also be properly disinfected, and the soil should be replaced, so that replanting will prevent root rot again.

2. Coconut leaf beetle: For palm plants that are seriously infected with the insect, the treatment should be carried out by removing the plants. Chemical control methods such as hanging bags with coconut leaf beetle powder are also used for treatment.

IV. Other issues

1. Can it be grown at home: It can be grown at home, but it must meet a series of adaptive conditions such as temperature, soil, water, light, etc. that are suitable for palm trees.

2. Can it be planted in the ground: Because it is native to tropical rainforest areas, it can be grown in indoor greenhouses. The various outdoor conditions do not meet the needs of palms and it is not easy for them to survive.
